About Our Firm

Haven Architecture LLC (previously Patrick Rettig Architect LLC) is a practice focused on residential architecture and project management - helping homeowners, contractors and designers create functional, livable, and beautiful renovations, additions and new homes. We have extensive experience with both the design and construction challenges associated with working on and among New England homes of all ages and styles - and we bring that experience, along with a dedication to high quality design and open communication, to each and every project.

About Patrick

My career began at an early age in my father's basement workshop, where my brother and I were free to use hand tools and scraps of material to make and fix things. After completing my undergraduate degree in philosophy, I moved to San Diego and found a job working as a laborer for a foundation repair contractor, digging trenches, jackhammering slabs, setting rebar, pouring concrete, and somehow realizing that what I wanted to do with the rest of my life was build things.

Since that time, I've worked for both a large construction company and a large architecture firm (Suffolk Construction Company and DiMella Shaffer, respectively) - and then later, as the co-owner of a smaller scale residential design-build firm, I worked as a designer, project manager, site supervisor and carpenter on residential projects of all shapes and sizes.

I've found that my passion is residential design and construction. I love working with clients to define a vision, and I love spending time on the building site with contractors and subcontractors figuring out how to make that vision happen.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Harvard University and a Master of Architecture from Boston Architectural College. I am a Massachusetts licensed Architect, a Massachusetts licensed Construction Supervisor, and a LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional.

About MIchael

Much like Patrick, my first exposure to construction was as a child in my dad’s wood shop. Being both a masterful wood worker and a great teacher, my dad taught me the value of good design. He showed me how a bedside table could be transformed from a simple utilitarian object into a work of art – with just a little intention, dedication, and creativity. My dad and I built a chicken coop when I was about 13 years old, and from there I was hooked on the idea that I could draw something on paper and make it a reality with my own hands.

As an undergraduate student at the University of Vermont, I studied philosophy, archeology, art history, photography, and sculpture. After finishing my degree, I moved to the West coast to further broaden my horizons.

In Seattle, Washington I worked as a maintenance technician, a traveling handyman, and as a renovator for a local Architect. I met my wife Katie, and together we started our own General Contracting business specializing in residential renovations and repairs. For several years we worked on small scale renovations of single- and multi- family homes around the Puget Sound. During that time I filled the role of carpenter, plumber, electrician, plasterer, painter, and laborer.

Since then, I’ve moved back home to New England and completed a Master of Architecture degree at Boston Architectural College. In addition to my work with Haven Architecture, I’ve recently been working on developing middle-income housing in my hometown of Burlington, Vermont.

About Parker

Growing up in Boston, I can remember having an appreciation for architecture and design from a young age. From taking trips to the Museum of Fine Arts to exploring Back Bay, I feel that Boston’s unique culture of art and architecture has been ingrained in me. I eventually decided that I wanted to pursue a career in architecture after spending my teenage years studying in my high school’s drafting/CAD program. From there, I went on to pursue and obtain my Bachelor’s degree at Judson University just outside of Chicago, another city of great stature in the architectural world. Returning to Boston after undergrad, I spent my first several years working in various roles at Vanko Studio Architects, a local firm that specializes in multi-family buildings all over the city and the Greater Boston area. I then decided to make the switch to single family architecture, working here with Patrick and the rest of the team at Haven.

Currently, I call Brighton my home since moving to the neighborhood with my wife Roslyn in 2022. In my spare time, I enjoy exploring my other creative outlets such as photography, fashion, and cooking. In addition, I like to say I have a “healthy” obsession with Boston sports.

About Preya

I’m from Ahmedabad, India, a city known for its heritage and culture. I believe that my fondness for architecture grew seeing all the rich architectural history around me. As a kid, I was always drawing and painting; colors were my best friend. As I grew, my fascination for buildings was evident to my family, especially my mom, who noticed my growing interest in the stories behind the historical structures and my long-held dream of designing my ideal house.

I then pursued a Bachelor’s degree in architecture from Anant National University in Ahmedabad, where I also had the opportunity to intern at HCP Design and Management, the esteemed firm that designed the Parliament House of India. It gave me hands-on experience with a range of projects, from detailed architectural designs to large-scale urban planning. It was here that I developed a strong technical foundation and a deep appreciation for how architecture can shape communities. I soon acquired an architect license in India.

In Jan 2022, I moved to Boston for my Master’s in Architecture from Boston Architectural College. While studying, I worked as an Architectural Designer at Kennard Architects, learning about American architectural styles and practices, offering a fresh perspective compared to my experiences in India. As I completed my Masters in May 2024, I joined Haven Architecture. New England has quickly become my new home, and I am enjoying exploring its rich architectural landscape and diverse neighborhoods. I am passionate about creating designs that honor historical contexts while embracing modern functionality, and I am excited to continue contributing to the architectural field in this amazing region.
